Start the building paperwork a week before the truck
Nearly every managed building in Dubai wants a move-out permit or an NOC before a lift is released, and most will not issue one until your DEWA account is settled and the final bill is cleared. Some ask to see your Ejari or tenancy contract as well. None of this is difficult, but it takes days rather than hours, and it is the single most common reason a Dubai move slips.
Start roughly a week out. Settle DEWA, request the move-out permit from facility management, and ask the new building what it needs from you as an incoming tenant. Tell your coordinator both building names when you book and we file what we can on your behalf, so the two permits land on the same date rather than a fortnight apart.
Worth knowing: the move-out permit and the move-in permit are two separate approvals from two different management offices. Getting one and assuming the other is handled is how people end up with a loaded truck and a closed loading bay.
Avoid the last three days of the month if you can
Dubai tenancy contracts overwhelmingly end at month-end, which means everyone moves in the same 72-hour window. Cargo lift slots in towers like Dubai Marina, Business Bay and JLT are claimed first, crews are stretched across the city, and the flexibility you would normally have on timing disappears.
A mid-month, mid-week move is easier to schedule, easier to price and far less likely to be squeezed by a lift slot someone else booked. If your contract dates leave you no choice, book two to three weeks ahead rather than seven to ten days, and get the lift reserved as early as the building will allow.
Protect the common areas, or your deposit pays for them
Tenants budget for the move and forget the building can bill them for it. Scuffed lift panels, scratched lobby marble, marked corridor walls and chipped door frames are charged back by facility management, and that charge comes straight out of the security deposit you were counting on getting back.
- Floor covers in the lift, lobby and corridor at both addresses, not just the one you are leaving
- Padding on door frames and lift entrances before the first item is carried through
- Photographs of any existing damage in both flats before anything is lifted
- A copy of your building's move-in rules, so quiet hours and lift times are not a surprise
Our crews lay protection as standard at both ends. It costs us twenty minutes and routinely saves tenants several hundred dirhams at deposit-return time.
Pack the box you will need first, and keep it with you
Whatever time the move finishes, there is a gap between the last carton arriving and the flat being usable. Keep one bag with you containing passports, Emirates ID, tenancy documents, medication, chargers, a change of clothes and anything valuable enough that you would not want it on a truck. It never goes in the load, and it never gets packed by anyone but you.
Everything else is our problem. If you want the full service, we pack that too and unpack it at the other end, so the only thing you carry across Dubai is the bag on your shoulder.
Understand what actually moves your price
Two quotes for the same flat can be hundreds of dirhams apart and both be honest, because apartment moving in Dubai is priced on time rather than distance. A 2BHK on the 45th floor with a single shared cargo lift takes far longer than the same flat on the 4th floor with a service entrance, and the crew has to be paid for those hours either way.

Every surcharge on this page, including high-floor and appliance work, is quoted before you book, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay.
